On Liberty

"When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty. "

--- Thomas Jefferson

Lesson 17 - A Paradigm of Learning Print E-mail

Rather than exerting force to bring all others into compliance with the patterned beliefs that we hold, it is more desirable (and certainly less destructive) for us to seek to learn more, and in the process of learning, to teach more.

If we really do know reality in a given case, it can be demonstrated and taught to others. If we don't really know (although we are bound to believe that we do, in any case), then we can teach what we do know, and seek to learn the rest.

There is no better method devised by which an individual can learn more rapidly than by seeking to teach others. The moment you begin to teach, you expose the areas of your own ignorance. These areas can often be filled in by the experience, observation, and knowledge of those being taught.
