On Liberty

"Freedom is always at risk, and those who forget or who misunderstand the lessons of Liberty will soon lose it."

-- Maximus Libras

Lesson 20 - Our Hearts Desire Print E-mail

Exactly how an individual might react in a given case, we cannot know or predict with any reliable degree of certainty, since we cannot predict, and cannot know, what an individual will think, and consequently how they will act.

Because of the common inate drives that appear to be part of the fundamental nature of humans (whether they be instinctive or instinctiod), however, we may be able to predict how they will feel, at least to a degree.

If we can find an emotional pattern undergirding human action, we can detect and define some of the basic drives that are universally held by all human beings.

By carefully examining the inate drives that all humans have, we may be able to trace a particular type of behavior back to a certain identifiable drive or desire.

For quite some time, it has been rather broadly observed and accepted that all humans have an instinct for self-perservation, or an instinct that compels them to preserve their own lives.
